A 16 yr old boy presents for evaluation and treatment of spontaneous panic attacks. These panic attacks have troubled him since July 2010 causing loss of sleep and inability to play varsity soccer at the level he used to previously.
His MD had tried a couple of different pharmacological interventions but none were effective in this case.
He came in the first day after missing 4 hours of school the day before due to a panic attack. He has to keep breath mints in his pocket to battle with stomach pains that also come on with the panic attacks. After one treatment with Acupuncture the patient notes a 30-40% improvement in symptoms.
He was treated twice the first week and twice the second week. It was after the third treatment that he told me, “Doc I felt better last weekend than I have in I don’t know how long…” He attended the high school dance and stayed up until 5 am without ever having to worry about the panic attacks taking away his fun. Even his coaches at the school noticed that their old player had returned to his previous form.
Blood work and hair tests have been ordered and are pending at this time.
